Some guys I know from Oxford have been keeping the UK garage flame burning bright with their “What you call it garage?” nights (that make me wish I was still in Oxford). Their latest UKG mix Freerange Presents… Local Produce Volume 7 by DJ Charris is absolutely big.
With the revival of these garage flavours from new-comers such as Mosca (featured on the first ever volume of The Build Up) and Deadboy and veterans such as Zed Bias still making brilliant music it’s great to see these nights popping up out of London.
You can catch Mosca at their forthcoming Freerange night in the Cellar Oxford on Wednesday, October 5. Click here for more info.
So it’s been a busy couple of months for me, moving to Cardiff, working on setting up an exciting new online business (link coming soon!) and I really haven’t had time to give Volume 5 the attention it needs, with that in mind we’re ‘rolling with the decimals’ this time. For those of you that haven’t heard about it, for Volume 5 I’ve asked friends and listeners to pick their favourite ever tracks for me to compile a mix from! We’ve had some amazing suggestions from Jimi Hendrix to Gangstarr to Orbital to MJ Cole, to MF Doom. Click HERE to check out the previous suggestions! Thanks to everyone for their suggestions so far, I’m going to get the mix done asap as soon, it’s shaping up to be one hell of a tracklisting!!
This Volume we’ve got a mix from Spalec DJ playing some techno and house and an awesome mix by Paddy from Oxford made up of hip hop, funk, breaks and everything in-between! I’ve played some tracks but have had to take a lazy radio dj approach, simple cut and fades from my pc! Read More
This Bob Moog Music Lecture really opened my eyes to synthesizers and electronic music.
I’ve spent quite a long time fiddling with knobs on synthesizers, but have never really known exactly how they work. This Read More

If you had to name your favourite tune of all time, what would it be? It’s hard to decide but I’m afraid you have to. Read More
Hello… So we’re back with a funky ass Volume 4. This month it’s all about throwing as many funk and disco influences at The Build Up as I possibly can. We’ve got some new material from Oriol’s album Night and Day that Planet Mu kindly sent us (you need this album) – it is out on the 19th July , we’ve got classics by the likes of Cajmere and His Majesty Andre, a future classic by Flying Lotus and all sorts of ill shizzle in between…

Ok so Mary Anne Hobbs has been giving Dunian a lot of exposure and it’s well deserved. Where is the problem and the rest of the E.P for that matter are amazing. I really wanted to feature his track ‘Where is the Problem’ on Volume 4 of The Build Up but simply couldn’t fit it in, and I’m kind of regretting it. So I’m hooking you up with the free download he is giving out HERE!!!

Volume 8 – End of the world – Fergatron
Fergatron aka Fergus Kirkpatrick works his magic through hip hop, breaks, funk, Hendrix, some of his own work, electronic bleeps, squelches & everything in between. You simply have to CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THIS NOW or play it below if downloading is too complicated for you. Read More »
